Chemical Peels in Palm Desert

Wisdom isn’t the only thing that comes with age. As we get older, our skin texture starts to change. Smooth, firm skin of youth can start to show signs of aging as soon as we reach our late 20s and 30s. Luckily, facial rejuvenation procedures like chemical peels make it easy for patients to put the aging process on hold.

Getting Older Gracefully

There are several internal and external factors that can age skin and cause patients to look older than they are. For starters, slowing collagen production that occurs naturally over time can quickly change skin texture. This causes volume across the face to diminish, features to sharpen and fine lines to appear around the lips, eyes and forehead. Years in the sun can also age skin, causing irreparable skin damage as well as new age spots and hyperpigmentation.

Hormones can also take a toll on skin. From long-lasting acne scarring to melasma resulting from pregnancy, women in particular may feel as if their skin makes them look older than they really are.

Why We Love Chemical Peels

Looking younger isn’t a new goal. Facial rejuvenation treatments have long been some of the top requested procedures for women and men who want to look younger and feel more confident in their appearance. New innovations in rejuvenation have also led to the development of a broad range of treatments. Options like microneedling, laser rejuvenation and dermaplaning are just a few of the new procedures to hit the market and help patients get the younger looking skin they’ve been dreaming of.  At Desert Med Aesthetics, chemical peels are one of the top facial rejuvenation procedures available to our patients.

Like other rejuvenation procedures, chemical peels are designed to improve skin texture on the face, neck and hands. During the procedure, the peel is applied as a gel to the skin. This exfoliates the dead and damaged layers of skin, revealing healthy new skin below the surface.

Fast, effective results are only part of the reason why we love chemical peels. One of the major benefits of the procedure is how effective it is in treating a broad range of blemishes as well as signs of aging. Studies have shown that chemical peels can deliver unique benefits than other, more high-tech anti-aging procedures, such as reversing melasma and staving off breakouts.

Another reason why chemical peels are so successful? Unlike other procedures, which spot target blemishes, chemical peels exfoliate away the upper-most layers of skin, physically removing damaged and dead skin cells to reveal clear, new and healthy skin. Additionally, while chemical peels can vary in intensity and depth, there is no downtime associated with the procedure. Patients are usually in the office for an hour for the procedure then are free to return to the daily routine.

In Palm Desert and Indian Wells, Desert Med Aesthetics is among the top facilities for comprehensive cosmetic care. Dr. Cosgrove’s personal approach to treatment, eye for cosmetic improvement and dedication to high-quality patient care sets her state-of-the-art practice apart from others.

To ensure patients enjoy the maximum results from their treatment, our practice offers a number of different chemical peel options, including:

One of the most trusted skincare brands, professional SkinMedica® chemical peels are designed to brighten skin from within by reducing the appearance of uneven skin and fine lines. At Desert Med Aesthetics, patients can choose from the complete line of professional peels, including Illuminize®, Vitalize® and Rejuvenize®.

Perhaps one of the lowest strength peel options available, micro peels are designed with sensitive skin and touch-ups in mind. Lactic acid is a superficial chemical peel that targets just the top layers of skin. In addition to exfoliating dead skin, the solution is extremely moisturizing, making it ideal for all skin types.

A low-level type of chemical peel, a glycolic acid peel is derived from sugar cane and citrus fruits. Unlike other chemical peels which penetrate deep to remove several layers of skin at once, glycolic acid peels primarily remove the top layers of skin and promote rejuvenation by stimulating collagen and elastin production. The immediate results and non-existent downtime make glycolic acid peels an excellent touch-up treatment option.

Jessner peels are typically recommended for patients with mild to moderate hyperpigmentation and sun damage as well as fine lines and wrinkles. Jessner and TCA peels are especially popular for individuals who want to brighten their skin while correcting tone and texture. As full-strength TCA peels can penetrate some of the deepest layers of skin, this combination peel offers a perfect mid-level peel.

During your consultation, our aesthetician will work with you to identify which type of peel will work best for your skin.

While there isn’t a recovery period associated with chemical peels, new skin is more sensitive to the sun. As a result, we recommend patients stay out of the sun and inside for the first few days following their procedure. Within a day or two of your procedure, the skin will begin to peel away and reveal healthy new skin.

During the first several days after recovery, it is important that patients avoid touching or applying product to the treated areas. Usually, your skin will look as if it’s been sunburned during the first few days after treatment. While it can be tempting to help the skin fall off by picking at it, this can do more harm than good. Instead, continue to apply moisturizer and follow instructions from our specialist.

Touch-up treatments will depend on several factors, including the blemishes being addressed as well as the type of chemical peel you received. Once you’ve undergone your first treatment session, Dr. Cosgrove can advise you on whether additional sessions will be needed to achieve your ideal results.
