Acne Scars & Sun Spots

Desert Med Aesthetics uses Levulan® Kerastick® Photodynamic Therapy, the most advanced and effective treatment for cystic acne. This treatment is also used for actinic keratoses (AKs), which are rough, scaly patches on the skin that are frequently called “sun spots.” AKs develop as the result of years of sun exposure and are often the first step in the development of skin cancer. People who spend a lot of time outdoors, such as golfers, tennis players, and boaters, have an increased risks for AKs.

Both cystic acne and AKs can be treated with a simple 3-step procedure called Levulan® Kerastick®.  Results are usually seen within one week of treatment. For less severe acne, laser therapy or Microdermabrasion is recommended.

Desert Med Aesthetic provide acne scar solutions to patients in Palm Desert, Palm Springs, Indian Wells, and Rancho Mirage. To learn more about what we can do to help you achieve smooth and clear skin, contact our aesthetic specialist today!

Before & After

Levulan® Kerastick® Photodynamic Therapy

For more serious skin issues such as adult cystic acne and actinic keratoses (precancerous lesions), Dr. Cosgrove recommends the state-of-the-art technology solution offered by the Levulan Kerastick Photodynamic therapy system.

As a unique non-invasive treatment, Levulan makes it possible for patients to achieve smooth, healthy skin with the help of a light-sensitive treatment containing the Levulan medication. Levulan is applied to the acne or lesions, and once it has been fully absorbed, specific areas of the face are then targeted with a special blue light that effectively destroys the lesions — all without harming your skin.

Cutera® Laser Genesis Facial

When it comes to persistent redness or stubborn wrinkles, Dr. Cosgrove utilizes Cutera Laser Genesis, a facial rejuvenation treatment that uses a non-invasive Nd:YAG laser to produce a near-infrared wavelength laser. This gentle yet effective laser has the ability to travel deep within the skin to precisely target inflamed or damaged skin.

The treatment can also help target skin issues such as fine lines, wrinkles, acne, acne scars, and rosacea. It can even minimize the size of pores without a lengthy recovery period.

Cutera® Pearl Fractional

Pearl fraction laser therapy is a facial rejuvenation treatment that effectively removes impurities caused by sun damage, scarring, and aging. Unlike other laser treatments that use infrared wavelengths to treat irregularities in the skin, facial lasers are ablative, meaning they remove dead skin cells through precise vaporization.

The Pearl procedure can reduce the appearance of fine lines, sun, and age spots. In the process, the appearance of the skin’s tone and texture and signs of sun damage is improved with rapid and long-lasting results.

DiamondTome™ Microdermabrasion

The DiamondTome wand is a crystal-free microdermabrasion device. With natural diamond chips embedded in the tip, this wand glides over your skin, clearing away dirt, debris, and dead skin cells to reveal a smoother and clearer complexion.

DiamondTome offers patients a safe and precise way to target superficial wrinkles, fine lines, blotchy, uneven skin tones, and aid in the body’s collagen and elastin production.
